Speaking of San Ignacio is talking about one of the most important tourist attraction of the department of Chalatenango and the country thanks to its pleasant climate and beautiful mountains.
San Ignacio is located in the northern department of Chalatenango, is 87 km from San Salvador, 5 km from La Palma and 8 kilometers from El Poy, the border with Honduras. The municipality is the Cerro El Pital, the highest mountain in the country with 2.730 meters above the sea.
History
Families Citalá migrants founded this place in the eighteenth century with the name “El Rodeo”, which was a necessary step on the road to San Salvador to the Shrine of Esquipulas. In 1807 San Ignacio was a thriving hamlet under Tejutla few years later to be promoted to people. Under the Law of 18 February 1841, “El Rodeo” was one of the electoral districts in which they divided the country and this shows that was already an important town in the district of Tejutla.
From February 1855 has been part of the department of Chalatenango. In 1951 he was awarded the town of San Ignacio Villa title. Its name is in honor of St. Ignatius of Loyola, patron of the place.
A happy place
San Ignacio is a nice small town humid subtropical climate to 1010 meters above sea level. Its main industries include coffee, fruit bowl, cereal, dairy and exploitation of forest products. Cerro El Pital, located about 15 KM from downtown San Ignacio, is the highest point throughout El Salvador. From this point, you can see the Santa Ana Volcano and Volcan de Agua in Guatemala, like many other geographical details of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. It’s a small cloud forest which breathes fresh air, hear the birds singing, and decorate a variety of flowers like orchids that are climate fresh.The own place is ideal for climbing, mountaineering and camping bike – being one of the most popular activities. Regular temperature is 10 to 16 degrees.

Cerro Miramundo. Climbing the mountains of northern hill Miramundo arrived at which is visited for its cool climate and pleasant scenery.
